I'm trying to set up sync but I was never given a recovery key.

I've read several other questions about this same problem but I haven't found an answer. I'm trying to set up sync. Apparently, somewhere along the line I'm supposed to get a recovery key which is necessary to sync another device. I tried this numerous times, I never get a recovery key. I also tried to generate a new recovery key by following the "I've lost my recovery key" steps, but that didn't work either. To do that I'm supposed to get an option that says "I don't have the device with me" but I never get that option.

Once Sync has been setup you can view your Sync Key / Recovery Key through Options > Sync -> Manage Account --> My Recovery Key (1st screenshot)

The Recovery Key is displayed in the last Sync Set Up window during the initial setup procedure, and entitled Firefox Cares About Your Privacy. (2nd screenshot)

The "I don't have the device with me" item appears in the Sync Set Up dialog window after selecting I Have An Account, in the lower left-hand corner of the Pair A Device dialog window . (3rd screenshot)

I have no Manage Account in Options > Sync. I have set up an account. When I go to set up sync and then create a new account, then enter my email in account details, I get a red X saying it's already in use.

Are you viewing the Firefox installation (or Profile) that you used when you initially set up Sync?

If you don't see this dialog window Sync isn't currently set up on that device. If you are sure that Sync was set up on the device, have you created a new Profile? Or, have you done a Reset of your current Profile?

I believe that Sync is removed from the Profile as part of the Reset process, but I not 100% sure about that. I am not able to test that due to the manner in which I have Firefox set up on my PC; the Reset isn't active.

I have not done a reset. I am not seeing Manage Account under options. I still see "Set Up Sync" under the Firefox button but when I enter my email, I get a message saying it's already in use. I have gone to: https://account.services.mozilla.com/ entered my email and password (which it accepted), deleted the account and started over. I've done this several times. The same thing keeps happening. I don't get a recovery key when I set up sync.
