my mobile phone uses microsoft outlook to sinc my contacts and such. would there be an add on for thunderbird so that my phone will sinc with something else besides outlook/

If not your best bet is to use gmail IMAP accounts and synchronize everything via gmail (phone to gmail Thunderbird to gmail.
