craigs list reply is showing many large letter "A" with a hash mark over it . And it is just in my email reply to the writer. it is as though where ever i might have hit the space bar or tab key it shows a lotof large "A" with the mark over it. very strange , what causes this to happen? thank you

That is likely Unicode that is displayed as 8 bit Western or ISO encoding.

You can check the encoding via:

  • View > Character Encoding > Unicode
  • Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden Menu bar.

There is also a "Character Encoding" button in the Customize palette that you can drag on a toolbar or in the 3-bar Firefox menu button drop-down list for easier access.
