I had to back up my files so that my PC would be reloaded back to factory settings. In the process when Mozilla was loaded back on to the PC, my address book and older saved emails are gone.

Are they on the external hard drive if I backed up the files? I am not a techie so I am lost!!

Thanks for any help you can provide me on this issues!

Um, how did you back up your old computer?

Thunderbird (and Firefox) store your data in a so-called "profile" which is stored in Documents and Settings on older Windows (up to XP) and under Users on Vista onwards. If your backup has included these folders then your data is safe and sound. (Specifically, it's under Application Data on older systems, and AppData on the newer.)

If you have changed from an older version of Windows to a newer version, it may not be able to find the profile due to the change in the folder names.

Can you advise what has been changed? You hint at it being just an Operating System re-set.
