Hi, I've been using FF for many years and for the last few years I've used the "Remember Passwords 1.1" extension to force passwords to be saved. this has worked great but last week i updated from v30 to v31 and this extension has been suppressed saying that it's not compatible with v31.

firefox is still saving passwords for normal password protected sites but has returned to default behavior of no longer saving password for sites such as online banking and paypal.

i've tried "RememberPass v1.1.2" but this too doesnt work. I understand that some functionality for the autocomplete feature has changed in v31 so i'm guessing there must be a new solution to forcing passwords to save, but I cannot find any info on google, has anyone got similar issues?

I'm really struggling without passwords being saved and I'm very sadly considering going back to chrome as that seems to save passwords correctly.

any advice? Cheers, Al

There shouldn't be any need to use an extension to override autocomplete=off if that is the cause of Firefox not offering to ask to store the name and password. This feature is controlled by the signon.storeWhenAutocompleteOff pref that you can inspect on the about:config page.

Also make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Save your passwords to a TXT file? Are you kidding? That is the not a good solution. Might as well put them on sticky notes and put them on your monitor.

I do agree your passwords should be backed up somewhere, but try to use just a little bit of protection. You can use some of the following free programs

keepass - http://keepass.info/ Lastpass - lastpass.com

Or if your on a Mac, Lastpass 1password

and no disrespect, as im new here, but just read that and freaked out

Fred, yeah, that's bad advice.

dpetree, Firefox ignores the autocomplete=off field now, so Firefox's own default password manager should be saving all passwords now.

Right, but I have to be able to enter the username and password at least once to try and save it. It's not even letting me do that. I have tried in private browsing, cleared cache and out of options. I even checked in "about:password" and it's not on the list

You should have read the whole message;

Sorry, driving, but I'll be sure to read when I can. Been on the road for a few hours now
