When I hit the Firefox Icon and error message comes on say Uniode Error AtL80.DLL and it even try to load because I can't get the error message to close. I have to shut my computer down and when it comes back up and try again.,, the error message is back right in the middle of the screen. Don't understand what happened. Was working fine until I got message to Upgrade Firefox and tried to install upgrade.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Looks like that atl80.dll file might be related to Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005. I'm stumped as to how that would affect Firefox or causing Firefox not to load. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Visual_Studio

Exactly which version of of Firefox are "we" dealing with? And can you provide a screenshot of that error message?

It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.
