I updated Firefox and now all my previous history is gone. Help?
Yesterday, I left my computer on when I left work and they did a system update, which shut down the browser. When I restarted Firefox today, all of my history is blank. I've always been able to access history before. I checked the settings and the box for "Firefox will never remember my history" was checked (is this a default on the updated version? This wasn't checked before). I'm trying to get back a group of tabs I had open yesterday - am I just out of luck?

Hi skbarr. I am sorry to hear that you are having this problem with your history. If I saw that all of my bookmarks were gone, I don't know what I would do.
I have some good new for the Bookmarks there are ways that we can get them back. Please look at Recover lost or missing Bookmarks for more help with that.
For the history it is possible that the information given will fix this as will. If not I am going to need to know what version of Firefox you were using before the update.
For the question about, is Firefox will never remember my history the default? The answer is no. By default the setting is to remember history. The change was likely done by the IT department at your work.
Hope this information fixes everything for you. If you need any more information please ask. Also please let us know if this fixes everything for you.
Bookmark / History Backups
Type about:support<Enter> in the address bar.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
Enter the bookmarkbackups folder. This is where Firefox makes backups of your bookmarks. Look for the jsonlz4 file you want to restore (check the time / date / size). Right click on that file and select Copy. Now go back to the profile folder where you started. Rename the file places.sqlite by adding .old to it. Now right click in the folder and select Paste. The file you just pasted here, rename it to places.sqlite. After you are done, restart Firefox.
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
