can't change show hidden files option
I have my old laptop hard drive connected to my new one. I want to import my bookmarks but can not find the right file because it is hidden. When I attempt to go to file options & click "show hidden files", apply, then OK, the appdata folder still doesn't show. When I go back to the folder options, the "show hidden files" button is unchecked. I've tried to make the hidden files viewable on the new laptop & the old hard drive but can't seem to figure it out.
Also, when I enter E:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles (changing drive letter & user), result is not found.
I really need these bookmarks, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, jake

First, thank you all for your help. I finally figured it out.
Sorry for not replying sooner, but I just got back - out of town w/o the old hard drive. I have all of my old bookmarks back up to the day my laptop died.
Again, thank you. Jake

Hi Jake,
Try just opening "E:\Users\USERNAME\AppData", then click Mozilla->Roaming->Profiles
If the Mozilla folder isn't there then Firefox must have been installed in a non-standard location on your old laptop.
If you can find a shortcut to Firefox on the old HD, right click on it and then click Properties. Look at the Target path. Try searching that folder for a sub folder called Profiles.
Does the old Firefox program still work?
Bookmark / History Backups
Type about:support<Enter> in the address bar.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
You could try to use another file manager like Total Commander if you can't make it work with File/Windows Explorer.
Are you sure that you are in the correct user account on the laptop drive (i.e. can you access other personal data)?
Were there previously any problems with that drive or computer (laptop)?
Click on the Windows menu. Select Run, and in the window, enter CMD. This will open a DOS window. Type Cd =<Drive>=:\Users\=<username>=\AppData <enter>
Example; C:\Users\Tarzan\AppData
Now type; attrib -h *.* /s /d After, type exit.
This should remove all hidden attributes.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
