How can I get firefox to ask me to save passwords for websites and to turn back on my auto complete for webpages?
Ever since the last update of firefox my autocomplete no longer functions and firefox no longer asks me if I want to save the password for sites I visit.

Check your history configurations, have sure that Firefox is seted to remember history.
Also try go to about:config and look to all auto entries (write auto in the search bar), change its values to true to enable the config and false to disable.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
- Deselect: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
Also make sure that the Password Manager is enabled.
- Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Remember passwords for sites"

When I went to the password manager and tried to click on "remember passwords for sites" I was not able to because it was shaded. Why would it be shaded?
"Remember passwords for sites" is shaded in the Private Browsing mode and when "Always use Private Browsing mode" is enabled.
EdMeister that did it. Thanks a bunch. Cor-el thank you also. Diego Victor thanks for the help.
Hmmmmm, I turned off the "always browse in private" option and now almost every time I watch a video on a website I get a box that opens in the middle of the screen that asks to use storage space on my computer. If I answer "No" to this question the box remains in the center of my screen making it impossible to watch the video. How do I get the box to not appear?
Note that I also posted above to check whether you are in Private Browsing mode.
If a website only works when you allow to store data locally then you will have to allow this or at least visit a website in normal mode when you want to save a new password.
You can use an extension to get Private Browsing mode support per tab.
- Private Tab: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/private-tab/
- Private Browsing mode tabs get a dashed underline
- You can toggle Private Browsing mode on/off via the right-click context menu of a tab
