Browser result in background?

Is the idea of using Mozilla technologies in the background to retrieve web data a possibility? I mean how sometimes programs run in background and you don’t know they are interaction with the operating system. What would you have to understand to start looking at this? Could it be XPCOM? Thanks

Are you asking if Firefox will download while you are working somewhere else? Yes. Downloads will continue as long as there is no trouble.

Thanks for reply, no I am talking about a way to retrieve the browser data and use features of Firefox to save archives of web pages. I want to create an application that will be able to save complete copies of webpages for something like a database where you keep records like scrapbook or MAFF does (both addons). This application would not have to launch a browser it would take a web address and just deliver the archive to directory of choice. Thanks

Maybe: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozilla/Projects/XULRunner

This forum is directed toward end user issues, so you may need to use a more developer-oriented forum for assistance with XULRunner and similar/related technologies.

Thanks, that is a helpful start. Is it just the Mozilla site or do some outfits have training for the Mozilla technologies? I have yet to find any. The Mozilla site is a lot of information, sometimes that states that things are as old a 8 years ago. I wish there was a way to know what tutorials and content is most relative. I have learned some things about XUL a while ago, then had some success with small things I wanted to do. However understanding what to focus on for a serious direction is hard at MDN. Does MDN have its own forum? Thanks so much for the help guys!

MDN is now using StackOverflow for development questions: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/firefox+or+firefox-os+or+html5-apps+or+firefox-developer-tools

But for "direction of Mozilla" questions, you probably would want to use one of the mailing lists: http://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo
