This may be a bug on Google's end, but it only happens on Firefox. Even more specifically, it only happens on my computer at work (a mac using OS X Mavericks) and not at home (a PC using Windows 7).

I sometimes leave tabs opened on Google search results, so I can come back to them if my search is inconclusive. If I'm logged in my Google account, while I'm on another tab, Firefox will often suddenly hang and move to the Google Search tab to display the unresponsive script alert. This does not happen when I'm not logged in. The script seems to be Google+ related.

I use about the same extensions at work that I use at home - fewer, in fact.

What could I do to resolve this, other than log out? I like to stay logged in to quickly access Google Drive (which also hangs if I leave it opened).

Does the issue remain if you start firefox in safe mode?

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows: On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
