My desktop is Windows 7 with Thunderbird email as default email. I recently purchased a lap top with Windows 8 and want to copy my address books from the existing Thunderbird on my desktop to my Thunderbird on my new laptop. What exact steps do I have to complete for a successful 'copy'?

moved to the Thunderbird queue
Navigate to your Thunderbird profile (see Finding your profile). The files with an .mab extension are address books, and can be copied. For more information, see Moving address books between profiles.
