It said Java plugin was vulnerable. After successful java install, I no longer have a java plugin in Firefox's list. It can't verify java versions match.

more options

I did what was recommended to allow Java to run in Firefox in the Java console. But it said to also check that Firefox is set to allow Java and Javascript to run in Firefox. It probably is, but I don't know how to do that or check that. I don't know what problems the loss of the plug in will cause other than it can't warn me if it's vulnerable, and it can't tell if it's a version match with Java in general and the plugin-in in Firefox's list.

If not having a java plugin that Firefox lists is a problem (and I think it is), I think I know how to at least get started installing the plugin from a file on my drive using the options button on some page or other. But do I install java.exe or javacpl.exe (Java control panel) or is neither one of them the plug in? If not, how do I get a plugin for java to install in Firefox? It would think it would be one of the files that got installed with Java.

Maybe it's this...

Firefox is a 32-bit application. If you installed the 64-bit version of Java then you unfortunately will ALSO need to install 32-bit Java. Not sure why Oracle doesn't automate that, but that's what they say:
