Hi,

Thunderbird used to remember the last language selected for spell checking. This was specifically changed in the latest update to Thunderbird. This creates a big problem for me.

My first language is Afrikaans and my second language is English. In the firm and town where I work most people speak Afrikaans, but in the large city close to me most people speak English.

For this reason most of my e-mails, I would guess at least 75%, are Afrikaans. However my Windows 7 runs in English. This is how I prefer it. I would be totally lost on an Afrikaans version of Windows and it would make no sense to use my PC this way. However when typing e-mails I want to use my Afrikaans spellchecker most of the time.

Since the update was made I have to manually select the Afrikaans spellchecker for almost every mail that I type. THIS IS STUPID, UNPRODUCTIVE AND EXTREMELY IRRITATING!!!

Please give me an option to at least choose the default language for the spell checker.

Very pissed off. Ernst Smit

被選擇的解決方法

What do you have here ? Tools > Options > Composition > Spelling tab or Menu icon > Options > Options > Composition > Spelling tab

Where it says 'Language' select 'Afrikaans' from the drop down selection. click on OK

then open a new Write message and test to see if Afrikaans is now the default. Please report back on results.

Thank you. That works.

The above solution isn't exactly right for Thunderbird 38.3.0, as far as I can see. It is similar, though.

Edit > Preferences > Composition > Spelling tab

and then the drop down menu of the languages.
