I am using a Dell inspiron 530 with Ubuntu operating system. About a week ago Firefox stopped connecting to the internet. Occasionally, it will get as far as the home page(Google), but just churns if I try to go further. I have uninstalled Ubuntu and reinstalled the current version of Ubuntu(15.10). This is a wired connection(the only one in the house). I have changed the cable and tried using different ports, to no avail. I have no problems with my numerous wireless connections. I have contacted by internet service provider(Brighthouse) and confirmed that there are no issues with the router. I have tried some of the fixes suggested on your website, also to no avail. I have no other browser on the computer. I have no security on the computer, as it is used for only a limited number of trusted websites.

I do not know what else to try.

Thanks

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

When I installed the new version of Ubuntu, Firefox was automatically installed with it. Firefox stopped working in the old version of Ubuntu, and does not work with the newest version of Ubuntu. Also, the instructions for firewalls appear to be for Windows systems. I am running Linux. I'm at the limits of my expertise(and maybe beyond them), but I don't believe there is a firewall, since there is no security software on the computer.
