I have installed the latest version of FireFox, but I continue to get prompts to download the newest version, appearing at the top-right of any other (not FireFox) browser. How do I get rid of this annoying artifact?

Where did you download Firefox from?

"Install New FireFox" sounds like you got your Firefox download from a dodgy website and it may have included a Virus or Adware / Malware.

There is no capital F in the middle of the name - Firefox is the correct name.

Sometimes a problem like that may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
