Received email to update norton. Clicked on download. Window prompted you have chosen to open and would you like to save but not the further prompt where to open with. Saved it but reopening just gives the save option. I tried different applications in the PDF status choices like adobe acrobat in fire fox and always ask but still only save options when file opened. thanks

That is correct. PS. Norton Live Updater takes care of such things.

Hi there.

It sounds like you're retrying the email link and not opening the local file (since Firefox boxes keep popping up).

If you want the Windows option to select a program, open the downloaded local file in Windows. Opening the downloaded file from Firefox's Downloads should also do the trick.

Just out of curiosity, what is the local file called (with file extension, "xxx.YYY")?

. Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the web site of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to Mozilla.org. {web link}

You can also report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

Help us safeguard Mozilla’s trademarks by reporting misuse {web link}

Fred's got a point there; I was thinking of my own emails I received from Symantec, which were legitimate but spammy/extortion.

The only secure way to do this is to go to the source, or use an in-program function or link.
