how about using the Gmail calendar in Thunderbird and Android.

I may have to do that, but I like Thunderbird better than g-mail.

You can synchronize your Google calendar (that you use in your Android devices) in Lightning.

The easy way is to get this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/provider-for-google-calendar/

then in Thunderbird, File|New|Calendar, pick "google calendar", enter your google account credentials and off you go.

thanks for the help - I was able to download the file, but am having problems installing it. I just get messages that it can't open it - even though I'm in Thunderbird. Under "file" I don't find an option for "new"

If you're in Thunderbird then do the following: - go to Tools > Add-ons to open the Add-ons Manager - at the top left of the window you should see a search bar - to the left of the search bar there should be an icon with the label 'tools for all add-ons' - select the option 'install add-on from file' - find the add-on extension that you downloaded and click 'open' The above instructions are for my version of Thunderbird. If you have a Windows computer or a Mac the menu layouts may be different, but the procedure is essentially the same.
