Thunderbird: auto update user password on windows domain
Hi, I have the following problem. I want to start using thunderbird instead of outlook on windows platform in a small company. By using outlook whenever an user of the windows domain changes his password, outlook automatically retrieves the correct password and the user trasparently continues receiving emails. Whereas by using thunderbird the same does not happen. In particular, Outlook is using exchange server while thunderbird is configured via IMAP/SMTP. I know the existance of ExQuilla plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/exquilla-exchange-web-services/ however if it possible I prefer to avoid to use it. Is it possible to configure thunderbird in order to automatically obtain the new user password? Thank you

Outlook through exchange is integrated with Windows active directory. Thunderbird is not, and there are no plans to do so. Enterprise features (Active directory integration) are something those enterprises that want them should pay for themselves. Volunteers have enough to work with without subsidizing the cost of doing business for others. Open source always has issues with money. we would welcome someone to actually pay a developer to implement many enterprise features. Most of what we have were developed by Red Hat some years ago.
Having said that, have you tried Kerberos as an authentication method?
This is an older method that Thunderbird does support. Microsoft also offer some guidance on it with regards to recent versions of exchange here http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2015/02/20/exchange-2013-and-exchange-2010-coexistence-with-kerberos-authentication.aspx

IS the password actually an email? Where does it appear in the outlook web application?
IMAP transfers ALL mail that appears in the users mail account for subscribed folders. It is a standard protocol. I am wondering if the mail your talking of is actually a mail at all.

Hi, thank you for your reply. Whenever an user changes his domain password, automatically the exchange server changes the password for the corresponding email in outlook. User name name.surname plus corresponding email name.surname@domain. The password for the user and email is the same. Is there a way to automatically change the password in thunderbird? Especially the SMTP password since I can solve for the IMAP password by using the ExQuilla plugin as last option.

using kerebos the integration should be supported. instead of using password you use kerebos. But it has to be enabled on the server end of things, but Windows server do support it.
