Imap and offline archiving

more options

I want to have my main email set up so that the server holds only the last x months of messages and the rest of the older messages are archived and available on my local PC.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_configuring-synchronization-and-disk-space-usage has the settings for changing from all messages to only the messages in the last x days. Do the archived local messages past that selected number of days stay in the same folder or are separate archived folders created locally on the PC?

My email is set up for all messages synced via the server now, but I am running out of storage on the server side and only want to keep the most recent messages on the server, but still be able to find and search older messages and folders on my local PC.
