Impossible to add one search engine
Hi!
I just installed Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon 64 bits on my new laptop and I have the following issue. I have no search engine, and I cannot add one... That's pretty annoying as I love this feature :'(
You can find here: https://framapic.org/gallery#Unf7bW4A3fKB/l5B41fUYeEHb.png a screenshot of my search engine preference windows
If I open the Preferences tab and I click on the "Search Engine" tab, nothing happens...
When I start Firefox from the command line interface, I have the following error message:
1473437835692 addons.xpi WARN Bootstrap state is invalid (missing add-ons: /..../.mozilla/firefox/jkpj2vc1.default/extensions/firefox-hotfix@mozilla.org.xpi)

It did it!
For the record, here is what I did on Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu):
- Download Firefox from the link provided by FredMcD.
- Quit Firefox
- Delete the Firefox installed from the package management system with "sudo apt-get remove firefox"
- Extract the archive and execute the firefox executable.
I now have a working search engine! The only difference is that my firefox is no longer installed from the package. So I have to handle the updates by myself using the firefox auto-updater inner system.
Thanks a lot ;)

To reset the search engines, remove these files in the Firefox profile folder; search.json - search-metadata.json - search.sqlite - search.json.mozlz4 New files are created when needed. search.json.mozlz4 ==only==(v45+) search.json search-metadata.json search.sqlite
Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.
Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.
Thanks for your answer.
I have no file starting with search in my profile folder...
Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files
C:\Program Files (x86)
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Linux: Check your user manual.
Do Not remove the profiles folder.
Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.
If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.
