re ;Unable to receive or send messages

Maybe your Firewall is blocking all Thunderbird access to internet. Please check your Firewall. This might be part of your anti-virus package.

Sometimes, after an update, Firewalls get confused and fail to understand it is the same program. Close Thunderbird. Access Firewall and set Thunderbrd to allow.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. We aren't currently using a Firewall. My husband's computer is configured identically to mine and works fine. I am able to receive emails on my Mozilla Firefox Xfinity email page, but not send.

Per the advice of Comcast, we tried reconfiguring the mail account to IMAP, but no different results.

The passwords have been deleted and reentered several times.

We scanned the computer with our antivirus program with negative results. Also scanned the computer with antimalware -- no threats.

We are out of ideas and very frustrated over the situation and gross waste of time trying to fix it.

re :We aren't currently using a Firewall. Are you sure about that?

Win7 OS automatically by default has a Software Firewall. You would not have needed to install it, but you would have needed to deliberately access it to switch it off assuming the AV Firewall has not assumed default control.

You do not mention what Anti-virus you are using..Are you using Norton? Many AV products have a Firewall that's usually used instead of the default. If this is disabled then the OS default Firewall would take over.

Perhaps you have a hardware Firewall in your router. Check the router is not blocking the ports you use. This is good link on explaining both, but you probably have got some type of Firewall.

re :I am able to receive emails on my Mozilla Firefox Xfinity email page, but not send. Mozilla Firefox is your browser, so this sounds like you are logged onto your webmail account. If you cannot send via webmail then you would need to speak to your ISP - comcast as you are accessing via their webpage. This is not a Thunderbird issue.

Thank you for your advice. I did check the firewall issue and found that the Win 7 Firewall was ON. I allowed Mozilla Thunderbird access, rebooted and no change.

Checked my husband's computer and found Win 7 Firewall ON and Mozilla Thunderbird Not enabled However his Thunderbird works fine. Did change his firewall to allow Thunderbird, however.

I uninstalled my Avast AV program and rebooted. No Change.

Both of our computers are using the same Comcast furnished router. As near as I can tell, my Thunderbird setup is the same as my husband's computer.

I really appreciate you folks who are trying to help me. Thanks so much.
