Dear Mozilla support team,

I have my own business and I have a website that consumer can go to and order. My site is : www.sundaysverys.com Lately, using Firefox, within my site, many places key words is highlighted and underlined with an URL link that will take you God knows some other sites...which is damaging my business and something is wrong. Please check it yourself.

Can someone from your group let me know how and why this adware/spyware got into this site using ONLY FIREFOX. But on the other hand, using Chrome or IE, there is no problem!

Please advise. thank you. Simon My contact: * email: *@yahoo.com

Simon, there is a problem with that link. Also, this is a public forum so I suggest editing your question to remove your private contact information.

Problems with unwanted text-based advertising can be caused by a bad add-on or a hacked site. To rule out the first issue:

Could you test your site in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)

Hi jscher2000,

Sorry for my late response. And thank you very much for your response. I had a typo on my site. it should be www.sundaysverybest.com Only on my desktop using Firefox, creates these random url/links within my site. But iI tried other laptop, PC, using firefox, going to my site, its perfectly fine. Like you said, it much be virus in my PC. But I have Norton loaded and upto date patch....but who know cant count on these AV programs any more...

I've not tried yet using the safe mode , but i uninstalled the firefox, rebooted my PC and re-installed, same thing. I will keep you posted when I try the safe mode and open my site to see if I see any unwanted url/links created within my site.

Thanks again! Simon

Hi Simon, a likely culprit would be an extension. You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. I can't remember the names of the extensions that do this; I suspect they won't mention the Intellitext engine (or similar) and you'll just need to be skeptical of what you find listed. If in doubt, disable.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?
