how can I remove New Tab from the tab history?
After the most recent updates, "New Tab" now appears in the history for the tab so that going back brings me to the "New Tab" page which I have customized to show nothing since I didn't like the new features on "New Tab".

Would not clearing your History do this ? Yes will loose your History but ... History is to be Made.

I was able to get the behaviour I wanted by setting both browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.aboutHome.enabled and browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled to false.
