Opened inbox to find it empty and found all of inbox in the trash folder. I was able to retrieve my emails but have no idea how this happened. Can anyone explain? thank you.

This is common on IMAP mail accounts. All the mail is deleted by say the phone and the change is replicated through IMAP to the Thunderbird instance.
