When I log on to T/bird, there is box with 'Mail Server Password Required' and underneath it states 'Enter your Password for (email address) on imap.virginmedia.com' Then 'OK'.

This is only recent.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is there not a checkbox inviting you to instruct Thunderbird to remember this password?

Sometimes it helps to open the password store and remove any duplicates.

Tools|Options|Security|Passwords→Saved Passwords.

Note there will be entries for both incoming and outgoing servers, so you'll usually find two instances of any password. Here we are particularly interested in duplicates for your incoming account.

Thank you for replying, so quickly. Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem. In the Saved Passwords" there is only one entry "4th Dec 2017", this when I purchased this Desktop PC. It was OK initially but recently it keeps asking for the password.

Further to earlier response, per your first paragraph, I managed to solve the issue.

Thank you very much.
