Firefox automatically updated yesterday (4th July) to 61.0, and I just noticed that my history from before then is missing. Bookmarks, passowrds, etc. are still there, but there's no history before 3:25 PM, when Firefox updated. I can live without it, but I'd rather like to get it back, Any suggestions?

Hi,

Thanks for the answer. Now, I'm really, really not a computer person, so I sort of need to be handheld through this.

1. There's no OldFirefoxProfile folder (this wasn't a refresh, just Firefox automatically updating to a new version. 2. In my profile data, I've found: places.sqlite (05/07/2018 3:17 PM) places.sqlite.corrupt (04/07/2018 3:41 AM) places.sqlite-shm (05/07/2018 1:37 AM) places.sqlite-wal (05/07/2018 3:17 PM)

The .corrupt one is the one whose time matches the vanishing of my history best.

Which one of these am I looking for, and what do I do with it?

Thanks!

And now I've just noticed that my history only goes back to yesterday, so it seems Firefox is only keeping 24 hours' worth.

History maybe starting over as they are in :

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite

So strange that bookmarks survived and history did not. As it says it was found to be corrupt. Do not know what the fascination with history and sessions are myself.

fyi for the future :

So suggest do a backup and keep them current.

When it comes time to do another backup that but do not replace the older one until do this : Places Maintenance is built into Firefox. Copy/Paste about:support into the Address Bar then Enter. You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

After digging around among some other questions by other users, I found a solution:

Find places.sqlite.corrupt and rename as places.sqlite

The last couple of days of history are gone, but the rest is back.

And I wouldn't say I'm fascinated by the history, so much as that it's a useful tool for finding things that weren't worth bookmarking but later turn out to be worth remembering.
