How to stop automatically downloading a file if you open it using 'open in new tab' option available when you right click the link on the file?

Whenever I open a file embedded online, I used to open it in new tab and it used to show me the file preview in the new tab. Now, whenever I do the same, the file just automatically downloaded in pc and it's such a waste of time to go to the download folder and reopen it. It works when the file is opened in the same tab but it keeps downloading when I right click on the file and click "Open in New Tab" which is the ideal option that I want to use for more efficient file viewings especially when you need to open multiple files in the same webpage. Please help.

Hi, I definitely should have added that I already looked at the link for firefox general options. The problem started when I attempted to download multiple files at one time. When I realized that it's still in "automatic download", I looked up the solution online and I managed to open the file in the same tab (not in the new tab, i.e. when I directly click the link for the file and it will open in the same tab). Again, my problem was I need it to open when I do the "open link in new tab" option but when I do so, it automatically downloads the file directly on my pc instead of simply opening it. If it helps, then file format is pdf. Thanks!

Some links are set that way when you click it open a blank tab to download. That isn't the fault of FF but the way the link is created and how the site interprets your clicking on the link.
