FireFox VPN Add-on
I used to have my Linksys WRT router flashed with ExpressVPN to cover all my devices and segregate devices, but it became a PITA with Hulu and Netflix changing their connection methods constantly. I know I can flash to DD-WRT or OpenWRT and use another VPN service, but I really just want a VPN connection on my laptop.
I did use ProtonVPN, installed their client on my Windows 10 laptop, but again... just another point of failure.
Rather than pay $3 to $10 a month for a VPN service for 1 minimal device, I figure I can just use a FireFox add-on; as long as it’s legit and not feeding my habits to Google or Facebook (as their iOS app has done).
So... what add-on is recommended for FireFox?

With a VPN, you get what you pay for. Typically, a free VPN is free for a reason, they are selling your data somewhere.
Firefox has partnered up with ProtonVPN, https://premium.firefox.com/vpn/ so that's something you could explore. Another option is using ToR
While I completely understand that you get what you pay for, I wasn't looking for a higher end monthly subscription for the minimal browsing I do on a desktop/laptop. I do have a Proton email and sporadically use their free VPN servers, if they'd lower their tier prices for both services I'd be all in with Proton.
I've used Tor in the past and I can also just use the Brave browser for simplicity, but I was curious if there was a simple FireFox add-on to provide the most basic, hassle free VPN protection.
The quest for VPN isn't something firefox End user can really do much about since firefox doesn't have one. Have you tried to use a Proxy setting as a different means?

Not sure if you are referring to Firefox as a web browser or as a non existent company but yes the Firefox web browser does not have a VPN built in.

TunnelBear offers up to 500MB/month free. If your VPN usage is light, that might be enough. I haven't used their Firefox extension, but a couple years ago I used their Chrome extension for a little work that required some geographic sleight-of-hand and it worked fine.

Do you happen to have an example of how a proxy server would provide the same benefits as a VPN?

I know FF does not have a builtin VPN, but there are plenty of VPN add-ons within the extensions section.

I like to mention Netflix and Hulu frown upon using VPN to access their services and the user will face consequences from those services. Those user should know the TOS they agreed to before asking to bypass those services Agreements.

Oh I know, Hulu was completely unusable and Netflix was hit or miss. That's my reason for posting here. I have ExpressVPN flashed on my router, but I needed to create rules for different tunnels for Hulu/Netflix to bypass the VPN. IMO, it's quite garbage.
With that said, I just wanted to protect my desktop/laptop browsing through FF, as FF is the ONLY browser I use. I figured there would be a VPN extension that would connect and protect as soon as I opened FF. For the meantime I'll use ProtonVPN's Windows 10 desktop client to cover all traffic.
