What code were you using on Firefox 72 in userChrome.css ?

Did you create a new userChrome.css in the profile folder ?

Do you have the Bookmarks Toolbar hidden ?

Is there other (tab bar related) code in userChrome.css, so you can test whether the file is still being processed ?

It is not that difficult to create userChrome.css if you have never used it.

The first step is to open the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" page and find the button to access the profile folder.

You can find this button under the "Application Basics" section as "Profile Folder -> Open Folder". If you click this button then you open the profile folder in the Windows File Explorer. You need to create a folder with the name chrome in this folder (name is all lowercase). In the chrome folder you need to create a plain text file with the name userChrome.css (name is case sensitive). In this userChrome.css text file you paste the text posted. On Mac you can use the TextEdit utility to create the userChrome.css file as a plain text file.

In Windows saving the file is usually the only time things get more complicated because Windows can silently add a .txt file extension and you end up with a file named userChrome.css.txt. To avoid this you need to make sure to select "All files" in the dialog to save the file in the text editor using "Save File as".

You need to close (Quit/Exit) and restart Firefox when you create or modify the userChrome.css file.

In Firefox 69 and later you need to set this pref to true on the about:config page to enable userChrome.css and userContent.css in the chrome folder.

Yup, userChrome has been there last 5 versions. Posted a copy of the contents previously. Config is set.

Went back and the config had been reset so I'm back to "normal". I also got the following to curve the tabs and set the background so they stand out like the olden days. Your thoughts?

/* Curve the background tabs at the upper left and right corners
   May not work on add-on themes. */
.tabbrowser-tab {
  border-radius: 12px 12px 0px 0px !important;
  background-color: #d0d0d0 !important;
}
/* Curve active tab and slightly overlap neighboring tabs */
.tabbrowser-tab .tab-background[selected="true"] {
  margin-left: -2px !important;
  margin-right: -2px !important;
  border-radius: 12px 12px 0px 0px !important;
}
/* Shorten the tab line along the tops of tabs */
.tab-line {
  margin-left: 9px !important;
  margin-right: 9px !important;
}
/* Shorten the vertical lines between background tabs */
.tabbrowser-tab::before, .tabbrowser-tab::after {
  margin-top: 9px !important;
}

/** "Light" Theme (Dark Text) **/

/* Border the background tabs (40% gray) for greater visibility */
#main-window:not([lwthemetextcolor="bright"]) .tabbrowser-tab:not([selected="true"]) {
  border: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,.4) !important;
  border-bottom-color: transparent !important;
  margin-right: -1px !important;
}
/* Remove short vertical lines between background tabs */
#main-window:not([lwthemetextcolor="bright"]) .tabbrowser-tab::before,
#main-window:not([lwthemetextcolor="bright"]) .tabbrowser-tab::after {
  border: none !important;
}
