After struggling with setting up a reliable private connection, I came across this site on how to set up private connections between iCloud Calendars and Thunderbird v78 with two-way sync enabled. I tested it myself and was able to create, edit, and delete events and reminders on both TB and iCloud (web site) and have them sync both ways.

I have never understood why apple make determining the end point of a caldav connection a major hunt. Are they just so determined to own the whole walled garden? Or do they think their customers like spending lots of time trying to discover what should be in the user settings on their web site.

There have been a number of post on various forums over the years that offer methods to determine the end point, This does appear to be reasonably clear. I wish you well with it.
