I'm not sure if this is a Firefox issue. Could be Microsoft (Windows 10).

When I right click on a page (not a link), a window appears with the left and right arrows on top, the refresh 3/4 arrow and a star. And underneath is "save page as," "save to pocket," "send page to device," etc.

But many times it pops up on it's own, without a right click or any click. How do I get it to stop?

That is the right-click menu for the webpage. It should only come up when you call it.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Do you possibly have a device with touch pad that may cause you to trigger the context menu accidentally ?

You can try another mouse in case there is a (hardware) problem with your current mouse. If you use a wireless device then check the batteries.

I can't reply individually.

Core-el, New laptop with Windows 10. I'm using the touchpad, and not clicking or tapping at all. Just pops up on its own. Don't use a mouse, and I don't want to.

I'm fooling around with the touchpad settings - tapping or not tapping, sensitivity - but it doesn't do much good. Just happened now, this time the window with undo, cut, copy, paste etc, popped up, and I didn't click, tap, nor have anything highlighted that would generate that window.

And just now the arrows, refresh arrow window just popped up on its own.

FredMcD, don't know what safe mode is. Use safe mode, forever? Would it stop the windows from popping up on their own?

Why should the window appear if I don't need it or want it? Then, its a fly.

Now, the Undo, cut, copy, paste window appeared on its own.

I think it's a Microsoft issue.

Where the heck is the sign in page to get back in here? Earlier it said, "Sign in or sign up" but there was no way to "sign in." Just sign up.

This is getting ridiculous. Just now a big file folder window popped up on its own, and after x'ing out of that, the arrows/refresh/star window popped up.

As to the mouse pad, I and others have had issues where the pad sends signals even when it is not used. The solution is to open the settings and select 'disable pad when mouse detected.'

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

The setting: "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" is unchecked. So it's been off.

I did a Microsoft chat and they say it's a virus. I doubt that. Because links were opening up by themselves on every single laptop I was checking out at Best Buy, etc. over the last few weeks. I just figured, "Well, that's Microsoft, and the way it is."

Although this is happening on Firefox - and it's really bad - and did happen a bit using Edge, and also after opening up the settings, one of the sections, "Sync," opened by itself. So I went back to the main settings page and another section opened by itself, is there a chance there is a virus and it was caused by downloading Firefox?

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

So you're saying there could be malware in the Firefox download? That also affects Edge and Microsoft 10 when I open the settings window?

The laptop is two days old. I doubt it's malware. And I doubt it's Firefox's fault. The only reason why I'm asking is because that's what Microsoft said, but it was in a chat and very difficult to deal with them.

And just for good measure, the Undo, copy, paste window popped up, just by moving the cursor. And it popped up again. Make that a third time.

I wanted to try this in Edge. And while moving the cursor around in this compose screen, a window popped up - just had paste, see all, print and read aloud. I guess that's Edge's version of Undo, copy, paste, etc.

So this issue is definitely not limited to Firefox.

One thing I haven't mentioned is that links open all by themselves too, as I scroll down a web page. Also, I'll right click on a link so I can open in a new tab, but it opens the link as if I single clicked.

Malware sneaks into your system. For example:

It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.

You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.

You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.

From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.

In the few days I've had the laptop, the only thing I downloaded was Firefox and a couple of add ons, a home page and a zoom page. Never had an issue with them in all these years. Also Chrome, but it's not on it now, post Windows refresh.

But if it was maleware, then a google search would find these symptoms. But nothing came up. "Ghost clicks" brought up a few, but they're old and not what's happening here.

Also, the last four weeks, I went to Best Buy and Micron Center to check out laptops. And on every single one, links were opening all by themselves as I was scrolling. Also, when I'd highlight text and released the click and right clicked (to copy), the highlight would disappear. It was almost impossible for that highlight to stay highlighted. And I shouldn't have to ctrl c or tap.

I did another Microsoft chat. This tech said this was all a hardware issue. So what a coincidence that every single laptop I put my hands on at Best Buy and Micron Center and the one I bought all had hardware issues! And while in that chat, that arrow/refresh/star window popped up a few times, even when my hands weren't on the touchpad or keyboard.

So I'm not sure about it being hardware related, I still think it's software. Either that or this is how it's supposed to be and I'm the only one in the world who notices all this and frustrated by it.
