So my firefox updated today, and now my bookmarks are separated, well everything, with a larger distance.

So my bookmarks are 3 miles long, as opposed to 1 mile, so now I am spending another hour having to scroll down.

How do I get it to the previous version where the font is not so large and separated by a larger empty white space, for no other reason other than what..?

This new font, extra white space that does nothing and is there for no reason version is just god awful..

Hi SHempsey, old versions of Firefox are always available, but not recommended. There's more info in this article: Install an older version of Firefox.

There is a community supported workaround to fix the menu spacing, which is to custom style the user interface using a userChrome.css file. I posted the steps a few hours ago in the following thread:

Okay..

a couple questions.

I don't use chrome, edge or opera nor do I have them installed. I do use W10, but I have most of the "apps" either deleted or turned off.

Is there an easier way to fix this spacing issue, other than the offering you have given, that is over my abilities to follow.

Simplest solution, fix it, then offer an update that doesn't have this spacing, and the no definition of tabs on the top of my page.

Currently, I don't know of another way to do it. Maybe another support volunteer will have a suggestion.

..and who's bright idea was it to make this change?

To make it look cleaner, and have much more empty white space on my page, it has now doubled the time it takes me to click on items that are spread further apart, and or hidden behind clicks on other pages, and for what reason? Esthetics? Not wasting time is much more important than looking good.

If it works, just leave it alone, for the love of all that is holy..

Again, keep it simple rules need to be applied. Just because one can make a change, doesn't mean that one should make a change.

Not bright or a smart move.

Still no "fix" on this..?

I see hundreds of complaints each day, maybe some one should be looking into "fixing" this cluster of a mess..?

What about for a workaround like groping your bookmarks in a tree format so it will be much easier to reach them?

Hi SHempsey, I learned of another short-term workaround. CSS is still your longer-term solution.

Temporary Fix

For testing purposes, there is a preference to switch between new style and old style menus. It helps with the spacing, but might be a tad bit glitchy:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new style) and false (old style)

In my test, the Bookmarks menu on the optional top Menu Bar was messed up in the existing window, but looked okay in a new window. You can do a regular shutdown/restart of Firefox to fully apply the change.

Well that did it, thanks, also found a darker basic colour theme to get an actual definition between tabs.

It's too bad that this is just a temp solution, as the CSS is way more effort, time, and I just cannot be bothered about using that way to change it.

Simplest solution, someone else, who designed the update should fix it..

..and ask the question, is this the smartest change that will not waste time of our users, before a change is made.

Regards.

Thanks for the (temporary) solution. As I mentioned in another thread about the lack of tab delineation, this new design is not an improvement, particularly for power users. I don't need my pulldown menu to be 3x as long and run off the screen before I can see all the tabs I have open in a window. There is no good reason to have so much white space. It's actually harder to read because your eye must travel farther. We can read text single-spaced, no need to "double-space" when not needed.
