gmail Oauth2, unable to sign in
A week or so ago my gmail account(s) stopped working on thunderbird. Eventually I just deleted them from thunderbird. After some searching, I went to google, went to my account and got an account password to use for a mail client on my computer. I started a new email account in thunderbird for my gmail account. Thunderbird, latest version 91.10
After adding in name, email, password and clicking 'done' it opens up a non-menu'd browser of some kind to log into my gmail account. In that browser I add my email and hit submit...it then reloads to the same page asking me to log in. Thus, I can never log in to my google account in that browser, thus can never set up a gmail account in thunderbird, thus cannot use it at all.
I have no clue what browser it is, but might be a firefox? No idea. I use firefox and have cookies on and such. However, not knowing what the thunderbird browser is, no menu bar to change any settings...and boom...
I can no longer use thunderbird for gmail. I cannot even keep the information in thunderbird since it won't save it until I finish the log in to google..which is impossible.
Don't want to go back to outlook, but This is unusable. Is there anyway to troubleshoot that log in browser it pulls up? I have disabled anti virus, ad blocking software, even took off security protocols that I could with firefox (thinking that might be the browser it uses)...
spent a day on it.. there has to be a solution..or its off to outlook (ugh.)

so, here is the solution to my issue. It seems that when thunderbird opens its own browser it does not allow cookies and such to anything or anyone, thus impossible to log in to google to authenticate. Solution was to go to.... Preferences... privacy and security... look for "web content"...under web content there is an 'accept cookies from sites"..I did NOT click this, but to the right of it was 'exceptions" . Clicked that and added Https://accounts.google.com saved changes...then I was able to verfiy my account through the thunderbird browser.. what a complete pain. Took quite a while to dig up that answer. Hope this helps others out with the same issue.

The requirement to use Oauth authentication seems to be the root of your issue. The Oauth authentication requires a different password (to be supplied by Google, not by you) for use in TB, while your existing password still works for web access. That means your current password must not be used in TB.
Here are the basics:
- change your security authorization to Oauth2 (do this for the server settings and also for the Outgoing (SMTP) server - two places - remove the password entries for the account (remove the entire entries both incoming and outgoing) - check to ensure that TB is set to accept cookies - Google will then step you through the authentication process for your PC.

Well, that was my suggestion, allowing cookies. I'm glad it worked.
