As of this morning Firefox crashes on start up on both my iPad and my iPhone, both running on iOS 16.2. On the iPhone no messages are shown, it simply crashes. On the iPad however a message is shown that Firefox seems to have crashed and I'm asked whether I want to restore tabs. Choosing either 'yes' or 'no' results in starting up Firefox and crashing again with the same message/question as a result.

I have removed and reinstalled Firefox on my iPad. It did start up and I was able to sign in with my account. However, when I wanted to use Firefox again, crashing on start up was there again.

I have included a crash report from my iPhone.

Hi

I am sorry to hear that Firefox for iOS is crashing. I hope that we can help resolve this for you. Before following the steps below, please make sure that you have updated both your iOS device and Firefox for iOS to the latest versions available.

As a first step, close down many of the tabs that you have open to as few as possible. Does this help reduce the incidence of a crash?

If this does not resolve the issue, open the iOS Settings app, select General then iPhone Storage. Find Firefox and select Offload App. Does this help?

Failing that, we will need to look into this in more detail with some logs from inside your copy of Firefox for iOS. This article will walk you through getting both crash logs and Firefox logs. When you have them, please file them here (a GitHub account is required) so that our developers can look into this further for you.

I hope that this helps.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your response.

What I have done so far multiple times is completely remove the Firefox app from my iPhone and reinstall it. What I noticed is that as long as I don't sign in with my Firefox account, the browser works fine. However as soon as I log in with my Firefox account it starts crashing on startup. The same happens when I use the QR code for pairing. So I suspect signing in / pairing / syncing is causing the issue.

I have managed to obtain crash reports and posted them on github (#12916). However, I was unable to obtain logs, because Firefox crashes on start up.

I hope you're able to help. Thanks in advance.
