Why does Firefox eat up over half of my system memory?

more options

My system memory is reading at 57% right now in task manager, that the vast majority of that is being used by Firefox.

Why?

Normally, this would be called a flaw in the program, not the user, as all I have done in regards to settings is "keep tabs previous open when re-opening Firefox" and "Do not automatically update" because Firefox took it upon itself to not re-open my previous tabs on the last update.

Why is this program eating up all of that memory? I have "Firefox (15)" in Task manager under "Apps" and then 13 more instances of Firefox in "Backround Processes"

Wtf?

被選擇的解決方法

I just realized, I had forgotten about Anti Malware Service Executable. Firefox is using a lot more memory than it should (and apparently is buggy.. lol...) but the main culprit, is not Firefox.

I'm dumb.

Don't mind me.

I suppose "over half" is probably not correct, as other things are going to use system memory. I am just frustrated and not thinking before typing.

So I check out the about:memory page, and I see "Minimize Memory Usage" and options for "Global Garbage Collection" and "Cycle Collection" I hit those thinking "Oh cool I'm just a noob." "completed on <date>" Drops memory from 57% to 56%, and goes right back up to 57%.

Do those actually do anything? It said the task was completed instantly after I clicked the buttons... are they just there for fun?

One of the reasons I'm so frustrated, is because all I can find in regards to posts are "Oh <user> did you do this? Did you make sure this option was checked?" etc... and it's like "I'm not using a Frankenstein system... so whose system is Firefox designed for? Bill Gates? Someone with a $500,000 system?"

It's so weird to me that all these companies design all of their programs with flaws inherently there as soon as you install the program, and it's user error 99% of the time.

58% memory usage now.

Probably not a memory leak.

LOL... I hit the "Subscribe to Feed" option on the right just now, and Firefox downloaded a file called "Feed" ...

Is that... am I... What is happening right now?
