Reseting my printer in about:config does NOT WORK.
I followed these instructions for re-setting Firefox interfacing with my printer, a Canon PIXMA MP480. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages#Reset_printer
I re-set the interface for my printer successfully this way about 10 days ago, and it lasted for a few days. I was finally able to print web pages again. Today however, I've had the same problem, and have gone back 3 times to re-set the interface through about:config, the same way, but now it never "holds" or "sticks". The new reset is so vulnerable, or fragile (?), that all I have to do is just change tabs withing the same FF page, and "print.print_printer"'s status REVERTS BACK to "User" every time-- no matter what. It's supposed to stay in "default" status after I've reset it. Today this happened when I was trying to print a Postal shipping label I had JUST been charged $10. for through PayPal, and I ended up having to void the label on PP's web site, and now the U.S. Postal Service isn't going to refund my $ for 15 days!! I'm sort of financially poor, so I'm pretty upset. If there's something I'm supposed to be doing in about:config to make the reset "stick" then please tell me what it is. All I did 10 days ago was close Firefox and restart it like the instructions say. Please help. Thanks very much.

After doing that "reset" and then restarting Firefox that pref should stay as "default". Then, after you select a printer and then print something thru Firefox it will become "user set" - that's normal operation.
If it resets itself to "user set" after restarting Firefox, and before you print something, that isn't proper. In that case you may need to "reset" everyone of the prefs for that printer, as explained in that KB article.
What printing problem are you having that is causing you to do that "reset"?
Responding to your last line (question) first: When I click OK to print from any location, I immediately get a small window with a triangular 'sign' and an exclamation point in it, saying "an error occurred in attempting to print" That's all it says, no error # or anything else.
Your 1st paragraph: No, prior to closing FFox & re-starting it it also reverts back to default. That's what I was trying to say when I stated the reset appears so "vulnerable"-- that the least little action, even just switching tabs & back again within a window, changes what I just set (default) back to the problematic status of User.
Your 2nd paragraph, first sentence: Yes, that's what happens also. It's reverting back regardless of what I do or don't do, it seems. I will go to the article again and read what you're referring to.
