The Joomla icon on page tabs changes to the Mac cmd icon - usually temporarily. What might cause this?

I publish a website www.sprint.gov.uk - intermittently the icon changes from the standard Joomla icon to the Mac cmd icon. Historically this has been temporary and the icon reverts back. Otherwise no change in site performance. I have a development version of the site on an internal server and the effect has just happened on this - Administrator control panel shows normal icon, site shows Mac cmd icon. Obviously something is happening on our servers but I have no idea what it might be. Any ideas?

The server seems to send that file as text/plain instead of as an icon file (image/x-icon)
