I've tried editing the about:config keyword.url and inserting the google string or by clicking reset - no good. My prefs.js is not set to read only. I am at a loss as to why it refuses to change. If I do get it to search via google briefly, yahoo takes back over again. What can I do?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thank you, I actually tried this last night prior to receiving your post. When I launched in safe mode with add-ons disabled Google was the default search each time I tried a search. I deduced that it had to be an add-on that utilizes Yahoo search so I launched in regular mode and disabled all of my add-ons, then turning on each one and checking the search function - I found that the culprit was a YouTube downloader add-on. Once enabled, Yahoo took over. Upon disabling it, Google was back.

So that is my solution to the puzzle!

Thank you,

Lou
