Why is the location bar just another search?

In FF3.x, typing in "espn" would take me to www.espn.com; typing "mozilla" would take me to www.mozilla.com; etc.

If FF4, it performs a google search on espn and mozilla. We already have a search engine right next to teh location bar, so now we have two instead of one? This is a BIG step backwards in usability and definitely not "Awesome".

How can I get the old method of operation back? If we're stuck with the google search, then I will strongly consider going back to FF3.x. I like the new features, but not to the point that I want to type in the entire address for 95% of the sites that I visit.
