This issue can be caused by an extension (AVG Safe Search) that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks cor-el. You solution seems to have worked. However, now every once in a while it seems that AVG still tries to start? I get a message that asks me if I want the program (AVG) to make changes to my computer. What can I do to stop this message from popping up?
