When logging on to Firefox a window has been popping up, first line says "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible". Further down in the window a line reads "View more information about this update". Clicking on that line returns nothing. Is this a legitimate update and if so why can't I get more info. on it? If not how can this window be kept from popping up and who is responsible for it?

You appear to be running firefox 4.0. The latest version is 4.0.1. To update, click Help | About Firefox | Check For Updates.
