when I try to run the update for firefox it just sit at trying to connect to update server and never does connect. What can I do to get the update. I have window 7.

Download Firefox 4.0.1 - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Un-install Firefox 4.0 and install Firefox 4.0.1
I suspect that the Google Update plugin you have installed has messed up Firefox's ability to update itself.
