I am trying to fill out a FAFSA application for grad school financial aid--FAFSA site says "incompatible browser detected," and explains: "Supported Mozilla Firefox browsers: Windows XP - Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x and 3.6.x"--

How can I access this federal govt. site with my Windows XP Service Pack 3 and latest Firefox vs. 6.0--why is this not working?

This is a major federal government site--I'm surprised and can't understand why my Firefox browser isn't accepted! I had no troubles last year with an earlier version of Firefox. Could it be this federal govt site is not up-to-date with Firefox 6.0? But wouldn't 6.0 be back-compatible with earlier versions?

The fafsa.gov site does not currently support Firefox newer than version 3.6.x. That is their choice.

You can install Firefox Portable to use only on that site and use your installed Firefox 6 for everything else. Firefox Portable installs in a separate folder on your hard drive so that it does not interfere with your Firefox 6 settings or personal information (bookmarks, passwords, etc.). You can also install Firefox Portable on a USB/thumb/pin/jump drive.
