I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and got Firefox ver 3.6.3 in the installation. Now I want to update it to newest version for the security aspect. But how do I do it? I'm new to Ubuntu, I have always used Windows so it's new to med. I did read a update instruction I found on the Mozilla website but I can not use the tips as my old version of FF looks different. I have no "check for updates" in the Help menu. In windows it's standard to download the program and then install by a install.exe program but this doesn't work in Ubuntu. Can you please help me course this is a problem for me.

被選擇的解決方法

I am not certain 10.04 LTS by default gives the option to update Firefox.

I am new to Ubuntu but mainly use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and that will update, or even let you choose another Firefox channel.

The easiest straight forward options would be either

  • upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (or another recent Ubuntu version)
  • OR install the Mozilla version manually

There is no need to keep the Firefox3.6 (canonical) installation, as that is no longer supported or secure, but if you do it would make sense to create a new profile so that each version has a unique profile.

Make sure that you meet the system requirements if you use an older and possibly no longer supported Linux distribution.

I updated to Ubutnu 12.04 and got Firefox 15 whit it so everything is fine now. My computer meets the system requirements for both Windows and Mac so I guess it will be okey whit Linux too. My RAM memory is a little low, just under 500 MB but I do not got any othet memory sticks today. Will be solved later. I tested FF after the update and it worked fine. A little slow thanks to the RAM but fine.
