I know there have been NUMEROUS posts/replies regarding the java issue since 7_U_11. At one point, using Windows 7, FF 18 and java 7_U_13, I was able to get java to work by adding a registry entry pointing to the NextGen plugin dll. However, now that 7_U_15 is out, I am again unable to get the NextGen plugin to be recognized. I tried just letting java get installed and that didn't work. I then entered the appropriate registry entries as I did before, and that didn't work. Somewhere in this mess FF upgraded to v 19 and now I can't even get 7_U_13 to work as it did before. I have an XP laptop that is at FF v 19 and java 7_U_15 and it works fine.

Is this a Windows 7 issue; a FF issue; or a java issue. I haven't any idea what to try next as all solutions seem to fail.

被選擇的解決方法

Well, apparently I solved the problem with a registry entry for the next generation plugin. As in the past, the java installer failed to enter the correct location of the java plugin for mozilla. In versions of java prior to 7_U_15, the incorrect path variable was placed in the HKLM/software/mozillaplugins registry entry. However, with ver 7_U_15 the incorrect path variable was placed in the HKLM/software/WOW6432node/mozillaplugins registry entry. Once the correct path was entered, the next generation plugin was properly installed after rebooting the system.

Please first download Java 7 update 15, it's the latest at the time of writing. It's not secure, but it's more secure than lower versions.

Java has been Click to Play'd in Firefox, which means you have to explicitly allow it every time it wants to run. This is prevent websites from maliciously infecting you without your knowledge. Read more about it at Why do I have to click to activate plugins?

I do not get a "Click to Activate" option. The NextGen plugin does not even appear in the list of plugins. When I go to a site that requires the java plugin I get the following msg: "A plugin is needed to display this content". It then asks me to install the plugin. If I click to install, all I get is the option to reinstall java 7_U_15 over again.

They aren't even reading the issues about java anymore. They're just posting links to the same page like robots. It's like they think the issue will go away if they ignore it long enough.

What is the correct path in the registry, jmcg? I'm on Win7.

The path on my system is c:/program files (x86)/java/jre7/bin/plugin2/npjp2.dll.

For some reason the installer doesn't insert the "plugin2" folder. Instead, it inserts the name of an executable file there!

The path should be the same in HKLM/software/mozilla plugins and in HKLM/software/wow6432node......at least it is for my system.
