While Firefox is idle, my external case fans decide they need to increase speed. Upon opening task manager, I find Firefox is constantly using up 15% of my CPU.

On a side note which may be related, Firefox also crashes occasionally without any warning. I can't tell what causes it.

I just started Firefox in safe mode, CPU usage is nominal. I am now disabling addons individually to find the culprit.

Disabled adblock plus, re-enabled adblock plus. CPU spontaneously calmed down.

Disabled ghostery, CPU has calmed down. Looks like ghostery was the problem. Thank you for the help.
