Old computer crashed, need to recover info to new computer that has FF now installed and somethings setup. Need to pick and chose what is brought over from old

more options

Had to buy new computer and it is windows 8.1 vs the old was XP. It took 10 days to get the cabling to connect the old HD to new computer USB port.

I need the computer for my work so I had to manually configure and set up enough to keep working. This includes FF.

Now that I have access to the old HD I want to selective bring over things from the old FF configuration and set up as I do not want to destroy the what I have already set up and configured. I guess you could say I am looking to do a selective merge of the two configuration and user data files.

You can use the Password Exporter to export the current passwords and close Firefox and then copy the signons.sqlite and key3.db from the other computer to the current profile folder.

Then you can merge the passwords by importing the backup that you created.

Alternatively you can create a second profile and copy the signons.sqlite and key3.db to that profile and install the Password Exporter and export the passwords in that profile.
Then you can use the Password Exporter extension to import those passwords in the current Firefox profile folder.

See this support article - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile

Any file that you copy from the old Profile into the new Profile (will overwrite the new file) will delete the info that is in the new Profile.

Tell us exactly what data you want to actually "merge" and we might have a solution for you. Bookmarks are easy to "merge" once you know how; other types of data aren't as easy to "merge".

It is the stored Passwords and login information that I need to merge most. I do not want to overwrite the ones I had to set up manually as to do that I had to go though password changes and verification processes. As such the old data for those few sites is now different. But the there are many sites that use login data that I have not gone to too since the computer crash and I wish to merge that with the ones I have currently setup.

I did look at that article prior to posting and it is well written and clear, it just does not do what I am after given my situation. Thank you though
