Did you try clearing your Google cookies?

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Many users have recently become more aware of privacy and either made changes to their cookie settings or installed extensions that stop some information from reaching websites. While this reduces tracking, it also can cause some site functions to break.

Disentangling these issues can take a bit of doing, but here's a fairly quick test.

(1) Try Gmail in a Private Browsing window. Firefox allows all cookies (temporarily) in this window, so it bypasses any restrictions in your settings.

Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+p
  • File menu > New Private Window
  • orange Firefox button > New Private Window

Then try Gmail. Success? If so, see this support article: Websites say cookies are blocked - Unblock them.

(2) Try Gmail in Firefox's Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, extensions are deactivated.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the small dialog that should appear, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Then try Gmail. If it works, then an extension is probably your issue.

If Gmail still doesn't work, try opening a private browsing window using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+p
  • File menu > New Private Window
  • orange Firefox button > New Private Window

In that window, try Gmail. If it works, then extension AND cookie settings are probably issues.
