can't move or delete messages in the "inbox archive" folder

I'm on Thunderbird v24.4.0. There is a folder in one of my two accounts called "Inbox archive". Most times that I try to either launch, delete, or move an email from that folder, there is a pause, then "not responding" appears up in the tab and after about a minute, the action either occurs (seldom) or TB eventually closes (most of the time). Whether the message has an attachment in it or not doesn't make a difference. It's basically rendered the folder unmanageable. The only other application usually running is IE 11.

I believe I have this "inbox archive" folder because of the way I moved messages and folders from my old, no longer working PC, to the new one, a Windows 7 Home Premium machine. On the new PC, I installed TB and new messages started filling the inbox. Later, I copied the old emails and folders from the old hard drive to the new PC - probably not the best or proper way to do it in retrospect, but I've only done this one other time before.

So far, I've tried rebuilding the global database (all folders, including the problematic one rebuilt and re-indexed properly), and repairing the folder and neither has solved the problem. I've thought of moving the "inbox archive" messages into the active inbox but am reluctant to do so as I can't be sure it won't make the regular inbox respond the same. This particular folder is the only one with this problem. I'd delete the folder if I could but there is stuff in it I have to save. It has about 4200 messages in it, using about 470mb of space, which from the help files, doesn't appear to be the problem.

I've been unable to find any other potential solutions in help topics so any ideas or assistance would be appreciated.

What is your anti-virus software?

It's McAfee. A little while ago I noticed all the issues with McAfee involvement so I just made the recommended changes - after a few minutes of testing, that may have been the cause - will continue to check it out. Thanks

Looks like the McAfee changes did it. Thanks for your help.
